The main PROJECT rulebook (recently updated with some fixes and a separate character sheet download) can be found HERE. (It’s also on sale as part of RPGNOW’s science fiction month until the end of May).

We heard you when you said you wanted more background information, so these class books will contain extra information about the setting as well as equipment, weapons, advantages, disadvantages and information on the enhancement process for each PROJECT enhancement. This one contains information about the PROJECT world’s medical systems and even about ‘traditional medicine’ in a world full of monsters and strangeness.

PROJECT currently holds 4/5 stars on reviews. It is based on the Open D6 system.

A key part of Gor is the idea of transplanted cultures. At unspecified points in the past the Priest Kings appear to have swept up samples of human cultures on Earth and to have brought them to Gor to found their own cities, settlements and empires.

Amongst these are the Greco-Roman culture that dominates civilised Gor and the islands, the pre-Christian Norse culture in Torvaldsland, the Shogunate Pani Islands, the Native American culture of The Barrens, the Mongolian Tuchuks, the Bedouin tribes of the Tahari and the Zulu influenced empire of Bila Hiruma in the jungles of the interior.

Conspicuous, so far, by their absence are Chinese influenced and South Asian influenced cultures (though Bazi may be influenced by either or both). For those players wanting to create a new or different Gorean culture this – and the uncharted territory of the world – create a real opportunity to make your own spin on the Gorean world, both of which have the potential to fit in very well with the caste culture of the broader Gorean world. There’s hints of a lost Mesoamerican culture, hidden in the deeper parts of the jungle as well.

Besides those areas, many cities are barely described and offer only the barest hints as to their nature. Harfax’s anglo-saxon names suggest something of a medieval English culture while the seeming etymology of other Gorean settlement names has its own hints that could be developed.

If there’s a period of history that you are particularly interested in you should be able to find an excuse to include it in your games, making Gor an extremely adaptable and open setting, if you choose to step beyond the bounds of the official material.

The setting has been updated to take into account developments over the last ten years or so, both in terms of technology and politics. The game setting is now much tighter with more defined goals but still drawing on the day-to-day news for inspiration. @ctiv8 is what might happen if you combined the anarchistic and utopian ideals of the early netizens with the activism of Anonymous and the hands-on approach of direct action groups.

Gameplay is a combination of technothriller, investigation and espionage with a more vicious and deadly rules-set tweak than standard FATE Core.

Machinations: Updated Fundraiser Page!

We’ve updated the fundraiser page with some new perks (there may still be a few more to come but we’ll handle changing your pledge reward for you if you want to change or double/triple up).

Things will kick into even higher gear starting next week with more notes, a pitch video and more to tempt and tease. I’m also hoping to get some blog and podcast interviews going and otherwise I’m available across social media and in this blog to field people’s questions about the game.

Meanwhile, here’s a few little word-pictures, tasters, ideas:

A pirate ship spreads its solar sails and sweeps out of the sun, blasting at a convoy of golden, glinting traders.

The white-furred bandit queen receives you in the icy inner chamber of her comet fortress. Airs and graces that bely her vicious whims.

The ship crashed. Your suit’s batteries failed. The bloodsucking thorns tore at your flesh and your shipsuit. Ragged and bloodied you are down to your diamond-knife and your disintegrator pistol, on half charge. Then you hear the shriek of a beast…

Gorlakk slides the packet of tyon powder across the desk, distracted by the three-breasted girl dancing in the zero-gee bubble. “You get that sold and I’ll give you your in with the Marquis.”

The gunfighter fixes her opponent in the range-finding gaze of her cybernetic eye. When the mass-lift fires they draw, but what he doesn’t know is that the gun on her bare hip is a decoy. The real gun is built into her gunmetal right-arm.
