#TTRPG – Soliciting Assistance to keep Wightchester on Track

As you may or may not have gathered, I had a bit of a health scare.

They say a change is as good as a rest, but given that this was a hypertensive attack, rather than a mental health break, I’m not sure that holds true.

Anyway, I’m on a couple of weeks of bed rest and waiting on more tests at the hospital, which means I’m behind on my crowdfunding project, Wightchester, despite having made contingency plans for such an eventuality.

I had previously put out a call for assistance, but wasn’t exactly compis mentis due to meds and distress, and I thought it best to be specific about what I need help with in a place that people can see, rather than contacting people back individually.

My good friend T-Shirted Historian whom I do RPG discussion streams with has stepped up to help me with some rules appendices and some location descriptions.

• Mostly what I need is someone to help with statting up some of the foes and NPCs.
• A familiarity with 5e is essential, Mork Borg and the OSR (Lamentations of the flame princess) a bonus.
• If anyone else wanted to help with location descriptions, that would also be a bonus. I include an example of such below.

House 7 (Open)

The door to this house lays on its back, inside the ground floor room. The wood is somewhat splintered, and the frame is split. The door was broken clean of its hinges, leaving a gaping maw in the front.

Parlour/Kitchen

The room is in total disarray. Looking down at the floor you see hundreds of footprints, layered one atop the other. Every piece of furniture in the room has been shattered to splinters and pushed against the outer walls, which are covered in filthy handprints. Even the stove, the only recognisible piece of furniture left, is dented – as though buffeted by some great force.

Encounters:

• [ ] – The stairs have been weakened by whatever force smashed up the room. Roll 1d6 for each person ascending or descending the stairs. On a roll of 1 they collapse, dropping the poor sap six feet to the ground, scraped against broken wood for +1d4 damage. A Dexterity Save, DC 15 prevents the damage, by allowing them to grab hold of the stairs.

Bedroom

Like the floor below the bedroom is smashed to flinders and absolutely covered in footprints with thousands of black and brown handprints all over the walls. There is one difference though, a bloody patch in the middle of the room, scattered with broken fragments of bone and teeth, odd patches of hair and skin. A bloodied hatchet lays next to it, its haft broken.

#RPG – I'll be Running Streamed Games on the Regular – and Helping with yours

It’s important, at this time, that we all look after each other. The gaming community that I remember has always come together in a crisis, been incredibly generous, and has looked after each other. Not to mention the incredible amount of charity work that has gone on.

This is a shitty situation for everyone, but fortunately we live in…

…which means we can play games online!

I’ve been trying to get some online games together, but it’s pretty hit and miss getting players. To that end I’ve tried to gather anyone who might be interested in one place.

Through that group I should be better able to flag up when I am running a game (every 2-3 days is the aim). I’m also hoping to gather some resources to help other people run games, and I want to be available to help you out if you’re planning a game or looking to make the jump online.

I have an extensive RPG library, so if you need help running up pregenerated characters, or creating new monsters – for just about any system – I should be able to lend a hand. Just hit me up.

I’m also willing – within reason – to shift the times of sessions around to suit who is available, and if you can get four or so people together in a group, but are left wanting for a Games Master, message me and we’ll see what we can do.

I don’t really enter the 200-Word RPG Challenge but I do meet the challenge. I treat it as an exercise, on and off. This year, as once previously, I’m offering up that work for sale, but for a special reason.

My cat, Charlie, has been with me about as long as I’ve been writing games full time. He’s been my companion and my muse, he’s added structure to my day, comfort when I’ve been down, amusing antics and much-needed distractions.

He also saved my life, literally rather than figuratively. At the point of one of my suicide attempts, he interrupted me, practically tearing down the door and making sounds I’ve never heard from a cat before or since. He stopped me, and I owe him.

Before the weekend a neighbour’s dog got out and chased him up a tree. In getting down again he scratched his eye and broke his left rear leg, right behind the knee.

This has meant many vet visits already, with more to come. Medication, X-rays, and may lead to an expensive operation to repair or remove the leg. I want to give him the best possible chance to keep the leg and to survive. I owe him my life.

As such I’m raising money to help cover his vet bills and to keep the options as open as possible. He’s an old boy and likely doesn’t have too many years left, but I love him and want him as fit and comfortable as possible.

This collection of games is Pay-What-You-Want. I’m sick of begging when things like this go wrong, and I do save money as a contingency, but it has been one thing after another this year and it just isn’t doable without help.

Darkzel Petition & Scholarship

Two things.

First, while it has been a couple of years now since my friend Zel’s death (Zachary Harris) the court case around his death rumbles on and compensation relating to it is still being disputed. I’ve done what I can to help by offering my testimony and perspective, but another way in which his family’s lawyers have decided to try and pressure the court (who only want to pay out on a beginning freelancer’s salary) into acknowledging that Zel was a talented young artist with a bright future who could have and would have made a lot more as time went on.

So, that said if you appreciated the art in anything Zel worked on for me (Blood, Cthentacle, Hentacle, Final Straw and others) PLEASE sign the petition to show your support.

#Gamergate Card Game Ready for Testing

Hello everyone.

I need a few volunteers to do some final playtesting of the Gamergate card game I’ve been working on.

It’s a two-player, adversarial game where SJWs and Gamergaters vie over Ethics Breaches either to expose them or to get away with them.

Before I finalise everything and get this out for purchase, I want to be sure I’ve got things working right and that my explanations are adequate.

So I’m looking for volunteers.

Time pressure is an issue, so keep the following in mind:

1. I need you to report back by Sunday/Monday.

2. You’ll need to be able to play the game, several times, in that intervening period (ideally 3+ times).

3. You’ll need to not be afraid to make suggestions.

4. You’ll need to be able to print and prepare the cards yourself for this test. Preferably you’ll have a colour printer as that makes things much easier.

#RPG Yard Sale

I’m going to be boring you to tears with appeals, news, crowdfunding etc over the course of this week. Here’s why:

Winding down Postmortem Studios after joining Chronicle City means my income stream from my own company has slowed tremendously and there’s always a lull between Gencon and Christmas. New companies – as anyone with a knowledge of business will tell you – take about three years to break even and make a profit and Chronicle City is only about 18 months into full time, so I’m stuck between one income decreasing and the other building up over time. I’ve also been hit with a bunch of house costs (that need to be settled before winter), car costs and other expenses and issues including my mental healthcare (aid with cleaning the house and regularly attending therapy to keep me capable of working). The money I do have is earmarked for artists, editors and some of the house repairs that need doing. As such I’m asking for your help in a number of ways over the coming weeks.

I know that I’m a controversial figure, but I have always done my best to try and help people out and to be there to offer an ear, support, financial and emotional and to otherwise be as good a guy as possible to my extended community of weirdos, freaks and nerds. Now I need your help and I hope you’ll help me out over the next couple of weeks as I ask for your aid.

Step one is a big ‘yard sale’ of old RPG items, though it pains me to get rid of them as there’s a lot of memories. There’s a lot here, especially old World of Darkness material and I’m sure there’s some collectors or LARP groups that still play in the oWoD who will appreciate the chance to pick up old lore cheap.

I Need You: Anti Censorship

This is reaching the proportion of Kafkaesque nonsense. Or possibly life mirrors ART.

I have never condoned or excused rape. I don’t say it’s a good thing. Never have.

I defended its use as a story element and largely because I have been concerned about things being written off on the basis of the character of content, sight unseen and unthinking.

I think anything should potentially be open for dramatic interpretation

Anyway, I would appreciate the assistance of those who know me, who know better, who have actually absorbed what I genuinely think and say to go against this nonsense.

There’s a human rights petition, which would be lol-worthy were they not serious.
