This piece depicts stumbling mummy, reaching out in anger.
Alrithohtep was ‘the shadow pharaoh’ of the Kingdom of Sand. Now known as The Faceless King. He was a bloody tyrant who replaced the worship of the Sun with worship of the Moon. He slaughtered most of the priesthood, oppressed the peasantry and enslaved many thousands, who toiled on his memorials. After his death – by assassination – his face was struck from his monuments and his statues were torn down.
His corpse was denied preservation or enchantment, given only the most basic of wrappings and sealed in a fortress tomb so that his followers could not recover him.
While his body rotted away, his wicked essence was preserved in his wraps and now they move from host to host, stealing away their life and gathering followers to preserve and repair his burial site – ready to emerge as a host to re-take the kingdom.
