Emily Garcia thought she was ‘woke af’ and was an online activist through her teens, running endless petitions and spawning numerous hashtags – some of which even took hold. At the height of her online fame she appeared on an internet call-in show on Al Jazeera to discuss sexual harassment on social media. All of this culminated in her joining up with Antifa group but, on her first outing she ended up getting cracked across the skull with a baton and ending up in hospital.
The head injury changed something in her, and after she came out of her coma she wasn’t only ‘woke af’, she was an awakened psychic. These new powers revealed a hidden world to her of ghosts, vampires, magick and conspiracy. Explaining this to her activist friends didn’t go well, and they soon evaporated from her life. As for her online spaces, on Tumblr claiming a conspiracy of Vampires was running the world or that you have psychic powers was positively mundane.
Now she has to juggle college, loneliness and a driving desire to fight back against the hidden world, even without allies.
